Nik Aziz: A Great Ulama and politician

Personal life

Born in 1931 in Kampung Pulau Melaka ,Kota Bahru is the second of his nine siblings.Revenue sharing life with his wife, which Sabariah Binti Tuan Tuan Ishak, was awarded 10 points of light (5 men and 5 women).
Nik Aziz is known as a Chief Minister of the most zuhud and pious.In almost all the time, he was always seen in robe and turban. He confesses to pray in the dark when in the office did not want to use government money to interest him. His house was just a normal village house owned by ordinary people. His house is not fenced at all and no security guards hired to watch.
Before becoming the Chief Minister, he is an active religion teacher. He has taught in Islamic schools Tarbiyyah Mardiah, Religious School and High School Darul Anwar Maahad Muhammadi, all located in Kelantan. So no surprise he is more friendly with the title 'Lord of Teachers or Tok Guru' among Malaysians. Even until now, he still actively disseminate Islamic knowledge to the community. In almost every morning, he will be the Imam of the Subuh Prayer and then gave a brief lecture in a mosque which is located only a few steps from his house.

Education

Nik Aziz received his early education from his own father, Tuan Guru Nik Mat Raja Banjar Hajj at his residence in Pulau Melaka. He graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Islmic Law from Al-Azhar University-Egypt .While studying, he had become a witness to the Arab-Israeli War .
He was studying at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kedai Lalat, Kelantan (3 Bulan) – 1936 , Sekolah Pondok Tok Kenali Kubang Kerian, Kelantan and Sekolah Pondok Tok Guru Haji Abbas, Besut Terengganu.He also studied at Deoband University, India - 1952 University of lahore, Pakistan- 1957.He is able to communicate in Arabic, Urdu,English and Tamil

Political career

Tuan Guru began to become a member of the PAS in 1967, now he is Mursyidul General of the party. Since 1990, he has helmed the Menteri Besar of Kelantan. He is also a State Assemblyman for N.06 Chempaka, Kelantan. At the 11th General election , Nik Aziz held the seat after defeating Ruhani Mamat (BN) by a majority vote of 3.694.
At the last general elections to the 12th. He was confronted by Datuk Dr Nik Mohd Zain Omar contesting on the ticket Barisan Nasional (BN) in the same assembly. In its rules, Nik Aziz can already won uncontested on nomination day when the opponent is to forget to sign on the nomination form. But he does not want to win the way so the BN candidate is asked to sign the nomination form. The results of this last election saw Nik Aziz won by a majority vote of a larger, namely 4.249.
He was willing to give up the post as Chief Minister after the recent election was. His successor will be elected through a secret voting process. However, if the votes are made will continue to see him elected, he was ready to continue with the responsibilities it has been involved in politics since 42 years pass.

Controversy

Controversial statement

By the elections in 1999, Nik Aziz to submit a proverb "No one associates with the devil." To justify the 'wedding' party PAS in DAP .He also described "the UMNO same as the Orangutan. He has also issued a statement ''Tuhan Pun Mencarut”, “Tuhan gedebe”, 'istikharah' I choose UMNO or PAS with istikharah want to adultery to marry 'UMNO is not an expression other than Islam as often says.

Objection to unity government

On June 22, 2009, Nik Aziz to withdraw forces resigned to Nasharudin Mat Isa on the idea of the unity government. On June 19, 2009, he was urged to resign Nasharuddin PAS deputy president and member of parliament Bachok.Polemik unity government stopped immediately as decided by the President of PAS with the leadership of the People’s Alliance in a joint statement in Parliament that rejected the idea of the unity government.

UMNO and Ayah Pin

On June 21, 2009, Nik Aziz in a ceremony at the political talks Manek Urai, Kelantan equate the struggle of UMNO with The Cut " Ayah Pin"and the Communists For it is only a metaphor and invite Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in public debate.

Special Conference PAS

On October 23, 2009, General Mursyidul PAS suggests that the party held a special conference to discuss the issue of "two or three cut troubled leaders, including president Datuk Seri Abdu Hadi Awang. Pressure Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat is made due to the anger of some party leaders, including Secretary General of PAS, Datuk Mustafa Ali and Commissioner PAS Selangor Datuk Dr Hassan Ali on the issue of the unity government.
